My Story
I am running Brighton Marathon 2026 to raise money for the Steps Worldwide charity!
My wife (Hatty) and I are lucky enough to have two beautiful healthy boys, Eddie and Otto, who are now 3 years old.
Shortly after they were born, as we were coming to terms with the craziness of now having two children, one of the doctors mentioned that our son, Otto, may have an issue with his feet.
It became clear that Otto had Talipes in both of his feet. Talipes is also known as club foot - it is where a baby is born with a foot or feet that turn in and under.
We were referred to The Royal Free hospital, who were and continue to be amazing. He started the Ponseti treatment when he was only 2 weeks old. He spent 7 weeks with his legs fully in plaster cast, to help move his feet back into the correct position. He also had a small operation to help with the initial correction.
The longer term treatment saw Otto start wearing ‘boots and bar’ to help correct the angle of his feet to ensure they are in the position they should be in. As a small baby this meant wearing the boots and bar for 23 hours of the day. After about 3 months this changed to every time he napped or slept, the time naturally lessening with the amount of sleep a child needs.
The Ponseti treatment will last until he is 5 years old and so far it has gone really well, he started walking at the same age as his twin brother Eddie and is now running, jumping and climbing like any other healthy 3 year old! Given the nature of his condition, we are hopeful about a positive outcome at the end of the treatment.
I want to run the Brighton Marathon 2026 to show Hatty and my gratitude for the great care he has received by the NHS (and the incredible team at the Royal Free London), and in honour of how brilliantly Otto has reacted to his treatment, especially as such a small child. We are incredibly proud of him!
Any money raised will go to Steps Worldwide, a charity dedicated to supporting children with lower limb conditions and their families. They provide expert guidance, peer support, educational resources, and advocate for better care and awareness around conditions like talipes.
All donations, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated to help me reach, and maybe surpass, my target.
Thank you!
