My Story

My granny was diagnosed with vascular dementia 4 years ago. It’s been a struggle to watch her slowly deteriorate over time. Her ability to do things for herself and remember her life and those around her has been rapidly decreasing. It’s awfully hard on the family, especially my mum. She looks after her everyday, visiting, cooking meals and support her so she can stay living in her own home. I wish to raise money for research and care work for this awful disease. My granny has carers once a week, they are wonderful with her but she makes it difficult for them as she wants to stay independent and not be a burden on anyone. She’s not but she can’t help but feel it. I look after and help out my granny as much as I can but there’s only so much I can do, I feel powerless against the dementia. I would love to run for my granny and those who are battling the awful disease. As well as them, there carers and families. They work tirelessly to look after them and stay brave as their loved ones are slowly stripped away from them. I want to do my part to help out, in any way I can. This is why I want to run Brighton Marathon and raise money for this amazing charity. My brother is also running. We want to form a team to run together and support each other just as we help to support our granny and family through the dementia
